Steinway used for a fundraiser

The Huntington Woods Library, [Michigan]  now has a new Steinway Piano.

The Mens Club and the friends of the Library raised the money for the piano.

The new Piano cost $51,000.00  A fully rebuilt piano would have cost about 25-30,000 USD.

“It's just gorgeous,” said Friends of the Library President Toni Brandt. “We fell in love with it.”

Brandt was among those who went to look at the piano on Jan. 2; it was delivered Jan. 4 in plenty of time to mark the library's 50th anniversary celebration on Jan. 16. While that may seem rapid, and it is, the acquisition of the piano that cost $5,100 took a bit longer.

It seems that the Study Club came up with the idea of getting a new piano, and with the Men's Club, donated some funds. Then the Friends group pitched in with the largest share of the cost. The donation — and the celebration — seemed appropriate for each other.

The Friends group, which also is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2011, always hosts a musical in January, Brandt said, so the timing was perfect.

The Friends number nearly 500 members, she said. Brandt said she plans to issue a challenge to Pleasant Ridge, whose residents also use the library, “to get more involved in the Friends.”

“I want the membership to go up to a thousand,” she added.
